Editoryal - Paaralan, Guro at Mag-aaral: Nagkukulang?

Magtulungan at magbuklod tayo.

Enigma of Nursing Life: Must Be Solved and Directed To The Conventional Path

During my second year of nursing school, our professor gave us a quiz. I breezed through the questions until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?" Surely this was a joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Before the class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our grade. "Absolutely," the professor said. "In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello." I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy. ~Joann C. Jones

Between a nursing student and a nurse, what would make a difference among the two? Maybe, of course, in the common point of view, the variation can be seen in terms of their state wherein the one is a person who’s undergoing education for the sake of being a nurse in the near future while the other is someone who engaged already with the proper upbringing in order to be skilled as well as trained in the healthcare of the sick and at present is applying what he learned as a nursing student. But looking at the inmost sense of what is a nursing student and of what is a nurse, we can say that the two people concerned can be modified interchangeably. It means that the endpoint and the commencing point of the labors of a nursing student and a nurse respectively are achieved because of the bountiful effects of the lives and experiences acquired as a nursing student and as a nurse. When it comes to the endpoint of a nursing student that’s when he already finished for instance the necessary education, the goal of becoming a nurse is at hand or can now be reached. On the other hand, the commencing point of a nurse, someone who is a fresh graduate from the nursing course can be attributed with the aid of the skills, knowledge and trainings inherited from his life as a student who’s a soon-to-be nurse. With the said testimonials, one can assure the fact that the terms “nursing student” and “nurse” are interconnected yet interchangeable in the broad sense.
As to be considered as a versatile nursing student moreover a versatile nurse someday, several principles are to be abided. These principles will help someone especially a person desiring to be a nurse somehow. They will ignite the needed passion to face all the odds that will be encountered as one journey to the road of becoming a zealous nurse. The first principle is that of providing a vision. If you want to be a well-rounded nurse at sometime in the future, you should create a vision of studying well and good enough to reap the prerequisite of the nursing course so that you can move on to the next principle, to achieve the goal of finishing your course with zeal, honor and confidence to be called as a well-to-do nurse as you begin a duty of service to your fellowmen in order for you to consequently apply the most promising and significant principle, the notion of losing yourself in the service of others specifically of the sick and those who are in need of thy care. With this tertiary principle, you can really say that a nurse is a clever one because his heart is amongst of his concerns for the life of humanity, for its caring and healing. In addition, obeying such principle as a nurse will produce great sentiments in his part and in the part of his patients pursuing the adage by an anonymous, “As a nurse, you will touch a life or a life will touch yours.” Following these three-fold principles will assure the desire of someone who is eager to become a versatile nurse to the extent of accomplishment and to the point of considering one as reliable and worthy enough to be a nurse especially when you put one’s self for the namesake and the innermost sake of the so-called “service”.
Beneath the principles stated in the preceding paragraph, one thing should be present. It must be the foremost strenuous wall that will nurture the said principles. Without its presence, these principles cannot be put in the surface of reality and in one way or another, the aim of becoming a nurse will not be attained. The factor that is referred to which is oftentimes very in demand in order to achieve the success of obtaining the title “nurse” is none other than “sacrifice”. This word is utmost in terms of acquiring wellness and satisfaction in all of our endeavors. In the case of nursing students vitalizing the intimate definition of sacrifice is a must. You should learn to sacrifice things for the welfare of your aspiration to be nurses. Also, you should know how to motivate yourselves about the inherent reasons and consequences as well of having a practice in sacrificing different components of your lives even at least for a meantime for the regards of your objective of becoming nurses. Based on established experiences, sacrifice as a nursing student can be observed as exerting intellectual and physical dexterities more than enough to excel in one’s academic performance e.g. doing paper works, coming to school and going home undertaking a far away distance, sleeping very late at night just to spend a quality time to review for quizzes and examinations, torturing at times one’s mentality or challenging mental limitation just to surpass the onset of getting above average grades especially in the segment of the scholars who’re enthusiastic to maintain or as much as possible pass beyond their intellectual greatness. On the other side, sacrifice can be viewed as spending your time and your effort to your study not more than enough but just enough to pass in school’s subjects. This perception is from the average group. Sacrifice can still be noticed not only in the context of the experiences in academic stability but also in personal experiences in compliance to the plea of his determination to be a nurse. It means that sacrifice resembles conforming to one’s desire to be a vivid nurse wherein one sacrifices meantime the time for his loved ones in order to comply with his purpose to finish education and eventually become a nurse like someone whose family is in the province while he’s away from them focusing and working out to his study.
An assertion that sacrifice is superb was uttered by a nursing student from I-G: “Ang sakripisyo ay sadyang napakahalaga sa pagtamo ng ating mithiin sa buhay.

To collate things up, we can logically say that if you aim to become a nurse in the mere future, you should first undergo to a life of a debonair student who has the innate vision to reach a desire, a goal and an aspiration. Within the ground of the life of a nursing student, one must adequately offer sacrifices wherein as he tend to sacrifice his time, effort, etc., certain sacrifices are also being rendered to him by his fate/destiny and these are sacrificing its time, effort etc. for the betterment and fulfillment of what he want to have in his life specifically the attainment of being identified as a nurse. Aside from sacrifices, various principles are to be obeyed so one can have an assurance of being a proper nursing student subsequently of being a one of a kind nurse. One wellspring among these principles should be considered as to be of vital importance and that is losing yourself in the service of others. Acquiring in your core a love for serving others will help you to be an effective and effective nurse as well as influential in a way to other nurses. As to be a service-centered nurse someday, you must learn to signify all the individuals you will meet as you venture your life of service to those who are in need most of your attention and care. If you’ll learn this manner, you can assess the long term period of your nursing profession and you can undoubtedly pursue the fact that serving people will give you a great reward not only in this world but also in the kingdom of God because you’re working in accordance to God’s image as the saying goes by: “God takes many forms and one is in the spirit of a nurse” wherein the people you served and will be serving will look upon you as God in human form who is fulfilling the legacy of healing the sick physically and as much as possible spiritually now and beyond.

Values of Service

Camiling Catholic School is a domain of distinct organs whose central purpose why they’re built is to render the so-called “service”. The organs I’m referring to are: Knights of the Altar/Dames of the Altar, Liturgical Committee, Choir, and the last but not the least, the only peculiar service-centered organization, the Citizen Advancement Training Organization. For the different religious and non-religious organizations of the school, exceptional viewpoints about the value of service can be known and learned from them.

It is easy to think of service as “doing good” – addressing needs, improving lives, leaving the school a better place than we found it. But service is about more than just outer results. It’s about inner transformation. Each time we tell our self-centeredness to roll over and put our inner generosity in the driver’s seat something inside us shifts. Service is about awareness of that shift as much as it’s about action. It grows us in our understanding of ourselves and the interconnectedness of our world. Every small act of selfless service moves us towards greater mindfulness and compassion. That is, what should be the value of service is. But as human who often make a difference tend to have distinctive perspectives on the value of service. Like in our school, the individuals who belong to the different service-centered groups have their own insights about service value whether with regards to the church or community depending on their service field.

According to the head of LITCOM and Choir(2006-2007), service is acting what’s vested to you. She claimed it with this statement: “Ang value of service ay ang pagganap mo sa lahat ng responsibilidad na naka-account sa iyo wherein you will exert all your time, efforts and sacrifices pursuing the adage, “Do your best and God will do the rest.” As she leave her post as the one who’s taking the lead in two religious organizations, she learned from the value of service a lesson that she will apply and carry for the rest of her life. And that is, “You are ready to accept the criticism whether it is positive/negative and if ever you will acquire some negative criticisms, use them as lessons in order for you to prosper and develop yourself for the better.”

The Altar Servers especially the Knights of the Altar through the years of their service in the church acquired their very own value of service which is following the love of God and bestowing it to others. Following the love of God in a mere sense that the servers pursued what Jesus had done for humanity to express His love that is, “to serve and not to be served.” Consequently, bestowing the love of God to others had been fulfilled when the Knights of the Altar transferred the kind of service they have or their service ground to their successors wherein these successors will continue the legacy of service that will be left to them by their progenitors.

For the CAT officers, service for the school and especially service for others are the cores of their organization. Like what Mahatma Gandhi’s saying expresses that service for others is simply what makes strong the value of service. In addition, for them, service to others is both a responsibility and a joy. They undertook great feats of service as school leaders but they also continually look for opportunities to help others in small, seemingly inconsequential ways whether it will be helping someone struggling with his luggage on a bus terminal, giving advice to students/pupils etc. because as to be in service does not only mean to join in an organization to serve others in the distinct way of the organ but moreover to render one self and what he has for helping the people in need maybe for one life aspect or possibly in all aspects as far as he can for enlightenment as well as for betterment. They knew that few people have been graced with the opportunity or motivation for great service, but we all have the ability and the spiritual need to perform many small acts of kindness.

When you see someone smiling, eleven times out of twelve you smile too. Service works the same way. Experiment any way you like, you’ll find again and again that acts of compassion are contagious. They awoke generosity in the recipient and kindle inspiration in the hearts of each accidental witness. A stone thrown in a pond makes ripples. An act of service cast into the world does much the same. The beauties of its full will always stretch far beyond our line of sight.

Often, the tangible effects of our service to others are quite modest and the enormous needs of the world can seem sometimes to dwarf our best efforts. “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”

And that’s where we believe service is perpetually born: in humble, everyday opportunities in the “small things” that present themselves in each moment, waiting to be touched by and transformed through love for the humanity and especially for God.

Philanthropy and Solidarity - Aptitudes To Progress

People in their own unique way are conscious about how they will be productive in their family, school and society as a family member, student/pupil and citizen as well. Each of us wants to pursue a progressive circumstance in our mere future. But, in what ways can we assure a life of prosperity towards our journey to progress? The ways are simple. These ways are something as inherent because it is naturally being shown by people who are eager to reach progress in their lives. The ways are: (1) to be in union with other people who have an interest which is common between you and them and; (2) to practice a generous way of living that is benevolent enough towards one’s fellowmen.

First of all, let us scrutinize well what is this generosity and benevolence that has something to do with progress. Philanthropy is a voluntary promotion of human welfare. It involves the donation or granting of financial sources to various worthy charitable causes. It’s seen as a way to directly affect change in society without recourse to the bureaucratic mechanisms of government. Someone who practices philanthropy is known as a philanthropist. In different ways, philanthropy can be defined. The origin of the word “philanthropy’ is from Greek and means love for mankind. Nowadays, philanthropy includes the concept of giving wholeheartedly by an individual to promote the common good. It is something a progress of performing benevolent actions with no expectation of acknowledgement or reward. Whatever is the sense of philanthropy, it’s always an incalculable factor that can promote progress.

Another factor that’s remarkable to the attainment of progress is solidarity. Solidarity is a feeling or condition of unity based on common goals, interests and sympathies among a group e.g. people. It’s considered as the X- factor to achieve gradual improvement, growth and development. With solidarity existing to each individual, the act of moving forward towards a goal is possible and can be easily circulated. To have solidarity is likely to have the ace to fulfill the prosperity that we’re longing for.

How can we say that philanthropy is a contributor to ‘progress’? In what way can we inevitably prove that philanthropy has something to do with our goal to reach progress? To be generous to one another will help us to make our beings feel a progress in their lives. To be benevolent to every single member of the society will give assurance to us that our society will reach the point of progress because the citizens are helping each other to promote productive society and if the society is productive nevertheless the citizens are also productive so we can say that if they achieve the point of increased productivity, both the citizens and the society are to be called as progressive ones. So, in order to have a stepping stone onward to progress, one should be a philanthropist in his own way. As Christians, we should learn to practice a philanthropic life that is giving sense to the saying, “the more you give the more you receive”. As to be charitable is one way that we can show the essence of philanthropy. To be benevolent contributor, eleemosynary relief and to give philanthropic contribution especially to the poor and needy, the essence of charity that will lead each of us to the progress that we’re trying to attain which is from the very start is considered as unreachable but with the philanthropy that dominates our aptitudes, it’s now an ongoing hope to progress.

What is the significance of solidarity in the road to progress? What are the instances where we can present the solidarity to be exercised by the people who are craving for progress? Solidarity is very important in our way to progress behind the reason that if there’s unity among individuals, the common goal that we want to attain can be easily achieved. Another is solidarity. It is essential to a group of people because if solidarity is being applied within a group, the interest arises which strengthens the members to work harder and to be dedicated to reach their goal. Having an interest is such an element of solidarity that should be nurtured within a group in order to earn its goal steadfastly. An instance where there’s a need for solidarity between the individuals involved is our beloved state that is now experiencing disunity especially between political groups. If there will be a solidarity that will come into existence between contrasting groups, an interest will rejuvenate which was then divided into two varied interests. This interest is common within the group. Like in our government, if there will be a unified interest that is to cooperate with each other for the progress of the nation, solidarity will really exist on the surface.

These two agents of progress – philanthropy and solidarity, are interconnected with each other. Without the presence of philanthropy, solidarity has partial capacity to reach progress and vice versa but if the two are combined, a force is delicately created to pursue the taste and smell of progress. If we’re practicing philanthropy towards our fellows, the solidarity that just hanging around will become the fruit of the benevolence that we show to others and in turn of the generosity we offer to them, they also help us to achieve what we want to attain as to turn back in their own way the help that we’d been given to them. So, philanthropy and solidarity go hand in hand. If there is philanthropy, solidarity emerges and also philanthropy emanates from solidarity in as sense that if people are in unified motion having a common interest and a common goal, cooperation and help are to be practiced by them so if they will help each other to procure their goal, solidarity arises. Basically, philanthropy and solidarity must be exerted on our cruise going to our desired destination, the so-called “progress”.

Mankind: “Time to make a move; let us persuade a life of unity and generosity among individuals.” We should not be anxious on how we can be productive. In order for you to make progress in your life, first, just ask yourself on how you would begin a journey towards progress. If you don’t know, the answer is apparent. As you’ve read the preceding paragraphs, the ways on how to commence a life going to progress are to be a well-to-do philanthropist and as much as possible be unified with others to reap the solidarity that encompasses.

Gazette's Vision - Scheme Visions of A Fold

“Visions to form in the mind imaginative foresights”. They are likely to be pictured to see what it would be like in reality. Three visions had been traced to seek the hidden skills of an organization composed of young writers who are dedicated to write and to make write-ups regarding their school as well as to those people belonging in this school. These visions will lead them to the best and will mark as a stepping stone for the youth who wants to cope with the writings of young journalists. The learning body that introduces three visions for them to last longer is the Gazette of Camiling Catholic School.

The vision is this: “A three-fold goals to come into existence the aspirations of one of a kind human organization.” It’s not only an ordinary organization but a body endowed with a triple-role task. It is a vision of truth and persistence. A vision of truth in a way that this organization is working for the sake of truth. But, a vision of persistence in a sense that without this value, an organization cannot stay long rather it will be withered and will disappear if the persistence of the members subsides in the process of reaching its peak.

The first vision is a helping hand for the students and pupils considered as young journalists to be the responsible journalists in the future - the vision to enhance and upgrade the journalistic skills of students as well as pupils. Enhancing and upgrading are good steps toward the accomplishment of the goals waiting to come into being. Enhancing the skills of young writers can be done by spending time in writing various journalistic articles. As a student, he should assign appropriate times in writing to enhance his talents and abilities in making articles. Engaging himself in workshops and seminars can make the necessary hope to attain his certain vision especially in an organization of young and meek writers.

Another vision that greatly creates an impact among the people who read the works of the young writers and that is, to spread the facts of reality. Even though the members are young and yet do not have enough experience, they should teach themselves and encourage others to write in order to learn the aspect of spreading the reality in their surroundings. They can make real the fact that as journalists, they should recreate a world that expresses the spirit of reality which nowadays is culminating behind the reason that some people are seeing the journalists as hindrance in them because of the uprisings they make in their writings which they considered as offensive. So, as young as they are, they should engage themselves in writing articles in such a way that they are following the vision of spreading the facts ethically. Without harm, they can make an output that they will become the responsible individuals who will be journalists in the newspapers’ publications in the society that is, full of issues and intrigues politically, socially as well as economically. But the bottom line is young writers should be responsible in the near future expressing the visible reality.

The third point is a vision that will embrace the first two visions. This vision will be the basic factor for the young writers to enable them to perceive the true journalists of the future. To complete the three visions… “A writer of today will be a foremost model of truth tomorrow.” One can reach this vision through attaining beforehand the first two visions. After a writer had surpassed the vision of enhancing and upgrading journalistic skills and the vision of spreading the facts of reality, he will be considered as a responsible journalist and most of all, a profound model of truth among other writers and also to the people who are reading his works. So, it is basically important to grant these visions to be responsible and to be a model of truth. This third vision is imbued with the process of attaining the first two visions so a young journalist should aspire to reach his goals with the aid of such visions that will help him to be a successful journalist in the future.

The three points of a longing organization are to be pursued by its members. The visions that will serve as a guide and a milestone for the youth beckoning to be involved in the field of journalism. The young writers who will be the predecessors of the present journalists. They will inherit the throne of journalism, a throne composed of the fulfillment of the visions of being responsible and models of truth among the people of tomorrow.

Unfolding the Psyche Growth

“What mattered most was that of Jesus self-offering to the world”. An assertion that will help us trace the development of the spirits of the people that marked significance in our salvation history including Mary, the mother of Christ and Jesus Himself. More than a millennium ago, a young mother received angelic premonitions which she had in her heart that her child would be a great leader even a fulfillment of prophecy. And yet her son, Jesus was born in a country occupied by the Romans and to a family outside the ruling and educated classes. It was not what the world offered to Jesus that would matter but what Jesus offered to the world. Through every trial that life threw at her, she pressed on trusting God, continually rising in her spiritual understanding. And she was able to turn a life of suffering and helplessness into one of healing worker to give salvation to humanity because of the tangible, practical effects of divine Love. As we journey in our spiritual development, let us sustain in our heart and mind that nourishing the spirit totally can be achieved through love because it created you and is sustaining you right now and eternally. Love is embracing you, walking with you, inscribing your very name. You are “the apple of His eye” and like Jesus, you too are His son or daughter in whom He is “well-pleased.”

In times of satisfaction and wellness, how effortless it is to acclaim and praise God and feel that all is right with the world. But when times are tough and no easy answers come, that’s when it takes a deep faith and tenacity to hold on to your spiritual reins and not give up on God. Because no matter how bare a situation looks, God do not give up on you. God is love and therefore love fills the entire humankind. You cannot be outside of that love. Its power is absolute and eternal. In some instances, we might feel that there’s no God, but that isn’t true. God doesn’t disappear when life gets difficult because God’s comforting presence is everywhere at every moment in our lives.

The term “spirituality” means devotion to metaphysical matters as opposed to worldly things. Another is, “activities which renew, lift up, comfort, heal and inspire both ourselves and those with whom we interact. Spirituality, in a broad sense, a concern with matters of the spirit, is a wide tem with many available sources. It may include belief in supernatural powers as in religion, but the emphasis is on personal experience. Whatever is the closest meaning of spirituality, Catholics regard it as a terminology proper to God.

How can someone live in a world without devotion to God? Does spirituality arises in the fact? Why is it needed to have this? Does it recognize the meaning of our existence that transcends one’s immediate circumstances? How would you develop it partly? totally?

Nowadays, we are unaware about the different principles of life. The principle used to pursue the dimensions of life. Among these dimensions, one aspect is unique. It is an aspect that people need in order to attain salvation. The salvation pertains to the spirit of a person in which it should be nurtured and fostered. Spiritual development should be practiced for a well-grown spirit. The spiritual aspect of life greatly imprints in our soul, the presence of reason and faith. The reason that is used for enlightenment pertaining to the process of reforming the defects of a certain belief and an inner sense in enriching faith in God.

We, the youth of today are the people who can respond constructively to the future. As we acknowledge spiritual strength instead of its vulnerabilities, we set the stage of developing well our spirits to respond to whatever confronts us. “Ah, young bloods(youth), you are the bulwarks of freedom, the cement of society, the hope of our race!”. So, you may realize the question, what kind of youth are the community bringing into the world? Are they acquainted with the divine resources to be found in God that will help them in developing their spirits? The spirit is a sole component of our whole well-being. It is connected to the different dimensions of life which are all essential in developing a person totally. The young ones are showing how natural it is to expect good, to have confidence in love, to act with authority in challenging justice. It’s the childlike qualities that will transform the fearful world we may know now, into the promising one we can envision. Helping one another experience this spiritual power is the greatest gift we can share to one another and to the world.

Perhaps, part of our spiritual development is to ask ourselves with the question, “What are my unique talents?”. The said talents are the gifts that God gave to each one of us. As we find the courage to move toward utilizing these talents, we’ll find that other things will fall into place as well as will create the space to be what we can call “spiritually grounded”. The most significant part of this is listening to how God’s infinite mind and unlimited/omnipotent intelligence is organizing our spiritual development. Spiritual intelligence – the capacity and desire to grow in the knowledge of God – makes us more effective. It opens up more time with family, more time to develop other parts of our lives such as working with the Church, the People of God.

One of our recent parochial vicars in St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Camiling, Tarlac gave sense on how we can develop our spirits:

“First is to emulate authorities not only the priests and nuns but also their superiors. Next is to have a spiritual guide and to join prayer group. Another is to have the initiative to be good as in ‘tao sa tao din’ and lastly, do good to others and be a witness to Christ’s teachings.”

The Present Status of the Philippine - Something To Emulate With

Each and every single nation in the whole wide world has its own national status whether political, economical, etc. But as a whole or something in general, the national status of a certain state is somewhat that have to look forward to. The status of a country greatly affects the visual taste of a citizen of other countries. Here in the Philippines as the one that had been called as the “Pearl of the Orient Seas”, a question is being inquired: is the engraved title of the Philippines worthy enough to be designated to a third world nation? Maybe other countries behind the Philippines or within the Pacific should be entitled with the said namesake.

First of all, Philippines at the present is suffering from economic crisis. The reason for this are: poverty – many Filipinos nowadays are undergoing on the process of crawling and pecking. What I mean is, the poor and the needy Filipinos have the hard time to earn money for their families and to search something that their homes(families) can be taken in order for them to survive. It’s liked just the saying, “isang kahig, isang tuka”. Another is graft and corruption – several politicians are putting the people’s cavans in their wide pockets in a sense that the taxes coming from us are spent not for the sake and progress of the Philippines but for the pleasure and extravagance of government officials. Lastly, natural calamities – Filipinos especially from the provinces are devastated by the calamities that occur like earthquake, whether tectonic or volcanic, volcanic eruption and floods as well. So, these are the factors that cause the economic status of the Philippine to decline.

Secondly, we’re also suffering from military problems and rebellions not only with the Armed Forces of the Philippines but conscientiously with the Abu Sayyaf groups, the President ordered that these groups should be in a way exterminated. These groups have their own principle that they are fighting for wherein on the side of the government, their principles could not be considered behind the reason that their principles are not humane and they are against the law. So, the dispute between the government and the People’s Army of today must be stopped as soon as possible because it will be a great threat for the ordinary Filipinos and the Philippine stability when the conflict between them will become worse. Military weapons and killings could not be the medium that will help us to get rid of disputes and rebellions but the right one is to hold a innate forum without anyone getting hurt so that peaceful talks will be held for the anticipation that obliteration of wars and conflicts will be achieved. Military weapons symbolize liberty as others says but liberty for me should be reaped by peace with unity among mankind rather than wars/conflicts not for the hope that the Philippines will stand above all nations.

Thirdly, the Filipinos are divided into factions. Each of the factions has its own principle, which they are fighting for or seeing through. Like the rallyists, they are always against with the government that they usually want to abolish an order, policy or law that the politicians implement and in addition to it, the rallyists are also aware with the overthrow of the head of our state that they really wanted to pursue a present president who is irresponsible and not a worthwhile leader upon his/her followers.

As a conclusion, our beloved nation needs a call to action. “A call to action from the fragments of unity.” We, Filipinos must unite with each other and together we will stand to reach our desired goal that is to prove once again that the Philippines is still the one and only, “Pearl of the Orient Seas.” We should assume a better nation than ever be that is, a nation that is ecomically rich both in terms of natural and human resources. Another is, be the citizens who are fruitful and productive enough that will soon rise up over a sinking economy of ours.
